The Reagan-Fascell program is an international exchange program that hosts democracy activists, civil society leaders, human rights defenders, journalists, scholars, and practitioners from around the world in residence at NED’s International Forum for Democratic Studies, during which time they conduct research, writing, and outreach on topics relating to democracy; share best practices and lessons learned; exchange ideas and experiences with counterparts, and build ties with a global network of democracy advocates. The program hosts two cohorts of Fellows per year (October–February, and March–July).

Summary:

The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program seeks to hire one or more Research Associates for the 2022–2023 fellowship year (anticipated dates of employment: September 2022–September 2023).  This is a one-year position, renewable for up to two years.

Responsibilities: 

  • Consulting with Fellows on the shape and direction of their projects
  • Providing research, written, and editorial support for Fellows’ projects and products
  • Facilitating Fellows’ networking and outreach
  • Aiding in the preparation and follow-up of Fellows’ presentations
  • Helping foreign Fellows (and their families, as needed) acclimate to life in Washington, D.C.
  • Assisting select Fellows with professional placements in the post-fellowship period
  • Aiding staff with programmatic and administrative assignments, including the annual competition, events, publications, and promotion

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • A. College Degree, in political science or a related field required
    • 1–2 years of work experience
    • Web and computer proficiency (especially Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of one or more foreign languages preferred
    • Experience living, working, or studying abroad a plus
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States 
  • Competencies:
    • Successful applicants will: have a keen interest in democracy and human rights; international development, the social sciences, or area studies.
    • Possess excellent research and writing skills.
    • Demonstrate professionalism and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in a team setting; and
    • Display dedication to international exchange and to supporting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

 

Duration: The Fellowships Program seeks to hire one (or more) full-time Research Associates (RAs) at 40 hours per week for the period September 2022–September 2023. RAs are expected to commit to working for the entire duration of the fellowship year. RAs serve as temporary full-time employees, with benefits.
